I was raised on Little Debbie snacks. We had boxes and boxes of sugary cereal, Kool-Aid mix, and frozen dinners in our pantry.
My father kept a large garden, and we canned our vegetables. My mom made her own tomato sauce and it was great. However … we ate more poor nutrient snacks and food than healthy alternatives.
Now into my 40s I am starting to realize how much crap is sold in our grocery stores. Thanks to numerous Netflix documentaries I am slowly catching on to this whole organic, healthy, fit lifestyle that I desperately want to implement in my home.
I am documenting our journey from junk food to whole foods – from quick and easy to homemade. From lazy to active.
This really goes against everything I know and how I was raised so it should be quite comical and hopefully better for all of us in the long run.
There is no fat shaming, body shaming, food shaming, exercise shaming, work out choice shaming, mom whatever shaming. This is definitely not about how you run your home, but it is about how I want to run mine.
A few years ago I started documenting my journey and was hit hard. Christians wanted to know how I could be a Christian and still do yoga. Chubby friends wanted to know why I kept posting pictures of my holier than thou fruit. It was an unpleasant response to my own personal journey.
I’ve come to a point where I feel more mature about handling critisism and utterly confident in my motives and why I want to document this journey.
Thankfully through the unhappy thumbs downs I also received many uplifting words. Friends reached out and told me that I was encouraging them. I had showed them that you are never too old to try something new. You’re never too fat to kick up into a handstand. You’re never too processed to try new whole food recipes.
Sure there are 1 million thinner, prettier, younger gals hosting yoga poses. There are 1 million stronger, defined, ladies lifting heavier weights. I am not competing with them. I am starting my journey here.
