Enjoying quality time is easy, but creating opportunities is a bit more challenging. Another tip to help inspire, create, and enjoy quality time … join Local Groups.
QTM Tip: Local Groups
You might also call this: community service, local outreach, etc. Any local group that is not focused on an idevice but rather engaging with each other.
A few weeks ago we were introduced to a Rock Group. This local group paints rocks and hides them around our downtown store fronts and parks for others to find.
We’re not a one-rock type of family. So we paint and decorate ten to twenty rocks at a time.
This is a great time to chat with my sons! We’re working together, toward the same goal, and it’s a bit relaxed. We talk about the rocks and then many many other things as we wait for them to dry or paint another.
This ‘hobby’ also gives us plenty of time together to go downtown and hunt for rocks. And it is so much fun.
Other families have gotten together to have one big ‘painting day’. It’s cool it’s not just something to do with mom, but other kids and moms too!
Rocks are a small thing but maybe you have a local beach clean up group, feed the homeless, or widow lawn service. Whatever it’s called … be part of your community and do it together with your children! They will learn a valuable lesson of caring for and being involved in their town.
If you haven’t joined a local group (there are tons of groups on Facebook – you can easily find one) talk with your children about start something.
What is something they’d like to offer your community? You never know what it could turn into.
Above all else don’t forget the purpose – quality time with your children.
A few days ago I was finishing up some rocks that were forgotten. I was all alone grumbling about paint and glitter. That’s not why we joined the group! After I stopped laughing at myself – I promised not to let this become ‘my thing’ but remain ‘our thing’.
